Post Indicator Valve (PIV) & Indicator Post Assembly for Fire Protection Systems
Key Value Propositions:
✅ Instant Status Visibility: Clear “OPEN” or “SHUT” indicators for fire main safety.
✅ Severe Service Durability: Fusion-bonded epoxy coating for underground longevity.
✅ Full Compliance: Meets NFPA 24 requirements for private fire service mains.
Complete Fire Main Control: The PIV Valve Assembly
A Post Indicator Valve (PIV) Assembly is a critical component of high-reliability fire protection systems. It consists of an NRS Gate Valve buried underground and a Vertical Indicator Post that extends above ground. This setup allows fire departments to operate underground valves and instantly verify the valve’s position without entering the building.
Our PIV valves are specifically engineered to provide a bubble-tight seal and effortless operation even after years of burial.

Why Our PIV Systems Lead the Industry
1. The UL/FM Resilient Wedge Gate Valve
Our fire post indicator valves feature an NRS (Non-Rising Stem) design. The wedge is fully encapsulated in EPDM rubber to ensure zero leakage and resistance to sediment buildup, ensuring the valve closes perfectly every time.
2. Heavy-Duty Indicator Post
Weatherproof Construction: The indicator window is sealed with high-strength glass to prevent fogging or moisture ingress.
Telescopic Adjustment: The PIV assembly features an adjustable barrel to accommodate variations in trench depth during on-site installation.
Lockable Handle: Designed to be secured with a padlock to prevent unauthorized tampering or accidental shut-off of the fire water supply.
Global Compliance for Fire Safety
Our Indicator Post Valves are the gold standard for:
Industrial Complexes: Main isolation for fire loops.
Warehousing & Logistics: High-piled storage sprinkler systems.
Commercial Infrastructure: NFPA-compliant private fire service mains.
Hydrant Systems: Isolation for PIV fire hydrants and municipal fire lines.
Standards: NFPA 24, UL 789 (Indicator Posts), UL 262 (Gate Valves), FM 1110.
PIV Valve Quick Facts
Q: Does the PIV assembly come pre-assembled?
A: We provide both separate components and complete post indicator valve assemblies. For ease of shipping, the post and valve are typically crated separately but designed for rapid “bolt-on” field assembly.
Q: Can the indicator post be used with any gate valve?
A: No. It must be used with a Non-Rising Stem (NRS) Gate Valve that has a matching flange plate to support the indicator post.
